You’ve heard it said, over and over: “Follow your passion! Do what you love, and the money will follow!”
What does it mean to follow your passion? According to several definitions on dictionary.com, the word passion is defined as: any powerful emotion; a strong or extravagant fondness; enthusiasm or desire for anything; ardent love (ardent: intensely devoted); boundless enthusiasm; (I like this one the best) an irrational but irresistible motive for a belief or action.
And what does it mean to love something or someone? The definition of love is: (n) a profoundly tender, passionate affection for someone or something; (v) to take great pleasure in (eg. To love music)
So to me, following your passion means to take part in what you truly and deeply care about. Sometimes it’s something that comes so naturally, you might overlook it. To follow your passion means to move in the direction of what you love.
There is one vital component: you must be true to yourself, true to your own desires, because your desires come from your soul. Other people’s desires for you are coming from their soul; that’s why they don’t fit you!
Often our parents, teachers, and other well-meaning people around us, will offer suggestions to us regarding our careers and other life decisions; especially if we tell them that we’re following our passion! They may think they’re being practical and helping us achieve a sense of “security” by getting a job in a big company, for example. But in my opinion, a sense of security comes when you follow your own inner wisdom; when you truly follow your passion and devote your life to what you truly love!
According to the law of Dharma (also known as the law of Purpose), our life purpose is where our gifts, talents, and passions meet the needs of the world. In other words, it means joyfully and passionately serving!
To me, that is the highest measure of success!
Many blessings to you!
